Noosa App privacy policy
Last updated 3 November 2026
Noosa App ("noosa") is a local guide app for visitors to Noosa, Queensland, made by J Haidenthaler and S.J Wilson-Smith, in partnership, trading as Noosa App (ABN 42 957 931 637). This policy explains what the app does with information. In short: no accounts, no tracking, and your plan stays on your phone.
What we don't collect
- The app doesn't ask for your name, email, phone number or any account. (Businesses who send us their details through our form are covered below.)
- Your location stays on your phone. The app only asks for it if you tap Near me on the map or Nearest first on Explore, and then uses it on your phone to show how far places are and your spot on the map. It's never sent to us or anyone else, and you can turn it off in your iPhone's Settings.
- We don't use advertising or tracking tools, and we don't sell or share information about you.
What stays on your phone
- Your plan: the places, days and times you add are saved only on your phone. We can't see them. Deleting the app deletes them.
- Plan reminders: if you turn on "Remind me before each stop", your phone itself schedules a note 30 minutes before each thing in your plan. They're made and shown on your phone, with no push server, and you can turn them off on the Plan screen or in your phone's Settings.
- A saved copy of the weather and the places, so the app works without signal.
Anonymous usage counts
So we know which places people find useful and how many people use the app, the app counts a few things:
- when the app is opened
- which place pages and guides are opened
- taps on a place's website, "Get directions" and "Add to plan"
Each count carries a random number the app makes on your phone the first time it runs, plus the app version and whether it's an iPhone or Android phone. That number isn't your name, Apple ID, advertising ID or anything else that says who you are, and deleting the app throws it away. The counts are kept on our server (Supabase, in Sydney) and used only to improve the app. We may tell a business totals for its own page, such as "120 views and 30 website taps this month", but never anything about a person.
When you tap a place's website, the link says it came from Noosa App, so that business can see visits from us in its own website statistics.
What the app fetches, and who sees the request
To show today's conditions, places, photos and opening hours, the app connects to these services. Like any website, each one can see your phone's internet (IP) address and basic device details when it answers, but none of them gets your name, location or plan from us.
- Our server (Supabase), for the list of places, guides and events, to ask Google for place photos and opening hours on the app's behalf, and to keep the anonymous usage counts above.
- Open-Meteo, for weather, sea and tide forecasts.
- Google, whose servers send the place photos shown in the app.
- Google Maps, to draw the maps in the app.
- Expo, which delivers small updates to the app itself (fixes and new screens), so you don't have to wait for a new App Store version.
Our server is in Sydney. Google, Expo, Apple and Resend are mostly based in the United States, so what their servers receive (like your internet address) may be handled there.
Their own privacy policies apply to what they receive:
- Supabase: https://supabase.com/privacy
- Open-Meteo: https://open-meteo.com/en/terms
- Google: https://policies.google.com/privacy
- Apple: https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/
- Expo: https://expo.dev/privacy
- Resend (business form emails only): resend.com/legal/privacy-policy
When you tap a link that leaves the app, such as "Get directions" or a photo credit, that website's or app's privacy policy applies.
If you send us your business's details
Businesses can suggest a new listing or a correction with our form (linked from the app). If you use it, we receive what you type, any photos you choose, and your name, email, phone (if you give it) and your connection to the business. It's kept on our server (Supabase, in Sydney), with photos kept private, and emailed to us through Resend so we can check it. We use your details only to check the submission and reply, and we don't publish them or share them with anyone. Photos you send, and you confirm you own or may share, may be used in the app and its listings, with any credit you ask for. Location data in photos is removed. To have a submission and your details deleted, email us.
Testing with TestFlight
If you're trying noosa before its release through Apple's TestFlight, Apple may share crash reports, basic device details and any feedback or screenshots you choose to send us. We use them only to fix and improve the app. Apple's TestFlight terms apply to what it collects.
Children
noosa isn't aimed at children and doesn't knowingly collect information from anyone.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
