Noosa App terms of use
Last updated 3 November 2026
These terms apply to the Noosa App ("noosa", "the app"), made by J Haidenthaler and S.J Wilson-Smith, in partnership, trading as Noosa App (ABN 42 957 931 637) ("we", "us"). By downloading or using the app you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use the app.
If you downloaded noosa from Apple's App Store, Apple's Standard Licensed Application End User Licence Agreement also applies. These terms add to it; where they differ, Apple's agreement wins for anything between you and Apple.
1. What noosa is
noosa is a free, opinionated local guide to Noosa, Queensland. It suggests places, walks, beaches, food, drinks, events and ways to spend a day, and it changes those suggestions with the weather and the time of day.
Everything in it is general information and personal opinion, not professional advice. It isn't safety, medical, legal, financial, travel or navigation advice, and it isn't an official source of information from any government, council, park, lifesaving or tourism body. Our picks, "best time" notes, price signs ($ to $$$$), "Good this arvo" badges, ideas for a day and Today's suggestions are opinions and automated guesses. They can be wrong, and they may not suit you, your fitness, your family, the day or the conditions.
You decide what to do. Always use your own judgement, and check conditions, signs and official advice before you go anywhere or do anything.
Some things the app shows are our estimates, not measurements, and they're labelled as estimates (for example the surf size at each break).
2. Information can be wrong or out of date
We work hard to keep noosa accurate, but we can't promise that anything in it is complete, current or correct. In particular:
- Weather, sea and sun. Temperature, rain, wind, UV, sea temperature, swell and surf come from forecast services (weather data by Open-Meteo.com) and our own estimates. Forecasts are often wrong, and conditions change quickly. The app may suggest a beach when it starts raining, or a walk on a day that turns hot or stormy. Check the Bureau of Meteorology (bom.gov.au) for current forecasts and warnings.
- Tides are estimated from forecast sea levels and are approximate. Never use noosa's tides for boating, fishing, navigation or crossing the Noosa bar. Use official tide tables and Maritime Safety Queensland advice.
- Surf sizes and lifeguard information are estimates or general guides, not observations. Lifeguard patrols change with the season and the day; check the flags and Beachsafe (beachsafe.org.au).
- Opening hours, prices, menus, events, gigs, happy hours, festival dates, tours, and ferry times and fares come from businesses' own websites, Google, event organisers and our own checks. They change without notice. Some times are estimated. Always confirm with the business or organiser before you go.
- Dog rules (where dogs may go, on or off a lead) come from Noosa Council and businesses' own words, and can change. Follow the signs at each beach or park. Dogs aren't allowed in national parks or in the flagged swimming areas.
- Map pins, distances and directions are approximate. Paths, tracks, roads and beach access can be closed or changed. Follow signs and official closures (for example Queensland Parks, parks.qld.gov.au).
- Photos show a place as it was when the photo was taken, which may be years ago. Sandbanks, tracks, buildings and businesses change.
- Content saved for offline use is a copy from the last time the app had signal and may be out of date.
3. Your safety is your responsibility
Noosa's beaches, rivers, headlands, bush and hinterland are beautiful and can be dangerous. Whatever the app suggests, you choose whether to go and how you do it, and you're responsible for your own safety and the safety of anyone in your care, especially children.
- Swimming. Only swim at patrolled beaches, between the red and yellow flags, while lifeguards are on duty, and follow their directions. Where the app says there are no lifeguards, swimming isn't advised. Rips, waves, currents, sharks, bluebottles, stingrays, stingers, submerged rocks and sandbanks can injure or kill. The Noosa River mouth (the Spit) has strong currents and bull sharks: wade, don't swim. Never swim alone, at night, after drinking, or in murky water after rain.
- Rocks, cliffs and caves. Rock platforms, headlands, cliffs and sea caves (for example around Hells Gates and Paradise Caves) can be deadly. Waves can wash people off rocks without warning, rocks are slippery and loose, and tides can cut off access. Where the app says somewhere isn't advised, it means don't go down there.
- Walks and the outdoors. Stay on marked tracks, walk in daylight, carry water, wear sun protection and proper shoes, and tell someone where you're going. Heat, falls, snakes, insects, wildlife, fallen trees and getting lost are real risks. Check track closures and fire danger before you go.
- Water activities and tours. Boating, jet skis, kayaking, paddleboarding, surfing, fishing, 4WD beach driving, skydiving, ballooning and other activities carry risk. Use licensed operators, follow their safety briefings, wear life jackets, and hold any licence, permit or registration the law requires (for example a boat licence above certain engine sizes, or a vehicle access permit for beach driving). Check tides before driving on the beach.
- Alcohol and driving. Bars, breweries, happy hours and drinks tours are listed for adults of legal drinking age. Drink responsibly, never drink and drive, swim or boat, and arrange a safe way home.
- Health. Think about your own health, fitness, allergies and medical conditions before any activity or food. The app doesn't know them.
- Emergencies. In an emergency call 000 (or 112 from a mobile). Don't rely on the app in an emergency.
Obvious and inherent risks. Many things noosa mentions, including swimming, surfing, paddling, boating, jet skiing, snorkelling, rock and headland walks, hiking, 4WD beach driving, horse riding, skydiving and ballooning, are recreational activities with obvious and inherent risks of injury or death. Those risks exist whether or not the app mentions them, and no warning can list them all. If you choose to do them, you accept those risks. Where we do point out a hazard at a particular place, it doesn't mean there are no others.
4. Businesses, websites and other people's content
- The places, tours, events and businesses in noosa are run by other people. We don't own, operate, endorse or guarantee any of them, and we aren't part of any booking, purchase, tour or visit you make. Any agreement is between you and the business, on its terms.
- Some links open the business's own website. We aren't responsible for other websites, their content, their prices or how they handle your information.
- Directions open Apple Maps or Google Maps, which have their own terms.
- Photos in the app belong to their owners and are used with permission or under their licence, credited on or under each photo (including Tourism and Events Queensland, photographers on Unsplash, Google Maps contributors, and people who gave us their own photos). Map data © OpenStreetMap contributors. Weather data by Open-Meteo.com (CC BY 4.0).
- No business pays to be in noosa. If that ever changes, paid or sponsored listings will be clearly labelled "Sponsored".
5. Your plan and reminders
Your plan is saved only on your phone. Deleting the app, changing phones or clearing data can lose it, and we can't recover it. Reminders are notifications your phone schedules. They might not arrive (for example if notifications are off, the phone is in Focus mode or low on battery, or times change), so don't rely on them for bookings, tours, ferries or anything time critical.
6. Using the app
- You may use noosa for your own personal, non-commercial use.
- Please don't copy, scrape, resell or republish the app's content, try to break or overload it, reverse engineer it, or use it for anything unlawful.
- We may change, pause or stop the app, or any part of it, at any time. Test versions (such as TestFlight builds) may have bugs and may stop working.
- The app's design, text, data and code belong to us or our licensors.
- noosa is meant for adults and families. Places that serve alcohol are for people 18 and over. Children should use the app with a parent or guardian.
- We don't assess accessibility. If you need step-free access or other help, check with the place first.
7. Liability
noosa is a free guide provided "as is". Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or changes your rights under the Australian Consumer Law or any other law that can't be excluded.
Subject to that, and to the extent the law allows:
- we don't guarantee that the app or its information is accurate, complete, current or available;
- we aren't responsible for the places, businesses, tours, events and websites in the app, or for what happens when you visit or use them;
- we aren't liable for loss or damage that comes from the obvious or inherent risks of an activity you choose to do, from information from other sources (such as forecasts, Google or a business's own website), or from not checking current conditions, signs and official advice;
- we aren't liable for indirect or consequential loss, such as lost bookings, travel costs or lost enjoyment.
We do try hard to get things right. If you think something in the app is wrong or unsafe, tell us at noosaapp@icloud.com and we'll fix it.
8. Privacy
How the app handles information is explained in the privacy policy: https://noosaapp.com.au/privacy/
9. Changes and the law
We may update these terms. The date at the top shows the latest version; continuing to use the app means you accept the update. These terms are governed by the law of Queensland, Australia, and the courts of Queensland have jurisdiction. If any part of these terms is found invalid, the rest still applies.
10. Contact
Questions, corrections or something we've got wrong: noosaapp@icloud.com. If a place has closed, a time has changed or a spot is unsafe, please tell us so we can fix it for everyone.
